Hydraulic equipment does not all use the same fluid. Start with the designation in the manual. HM anti-wear oil, HL mineral oil and low-temperature families should be compared against that requirement before you select a grade.
Anti-wear hydraulic oil families. Required performance designation, viscosity and equipment model.
Mineral hydraulic oil. Whether the equipment specifically calls for the HL fluid type.
Low-pour-point product families. Cold-start conditions and the exact equipment requirement.
Hydraulic and slideway application. Whether one fluid is specified for the combined system.
Precision hydraulic applications. Required fluid specification and delivered cleanliness information.
Special hydraulic fluid requirement. Fluid chemistry, seals and the equipment-specific specification.

| Selection point | Information to keep | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Fluid type | HM, HL, HV, HS, HG or a separately specified fire-resistant fluid | The grade number does not identify the fluid chemistry or performance requirement. |
| Viscosity | The full designation in the equipment manual | Select the grade for the system; do not treat a thicker oil as an automatic upgrade. |
| Temperature and cleanliness | Cold-start conditions and any required cleanliness code | These are separate checks from the viscosity grade. |
Yes. List each grade, pack size and quantity separately. That keeps the quotation clear if you are buying for several machines or stocking a distributor range.
AW is a common purchasing term for anti-wear oil. Please send the full fluid specification as well as the viscosity so we can review the product you mean.
Include the fluid specification and target cleanliness code. Ask for the delivered cleanliness information for the proposed product before ordering.
Check the existing fluid, the proposed oil and the equipment requirement before mixing. Similar viscosity alone does not establish compatibility. Include whether this is a top-up or a full change.
Compare HM 32, HM 46 and HM 68 labels and pack sizes.
